“But mum, you never had a problem with me dating Maureen, so why do you have a problem with me marrying her? As a matter of fact, you were so nice to her the last time you met.” I ask surprised at my mum’s reaction.
“That’s because I thought she was just a fling. Someone you just want to satisfy your sexual desires with. Not a girl you want to marry. That girl is older than you and for what we know, she might already be on menopause, or worst, she could be barren.”
“Mom I am a Christian, I don’t go about sleeping with women. And even if I did, Maureen isn’t one of them. I have never even kissed her yet. I just know that she is my wife. The one destined for me.”
“Just like Sarah was destined for you huh?” TouchΓ©. Her question is a reminder of my youthful swing.
I got married very young, thinking that Sarah was the one for me but I was wrong.
“I was not a believer when I met Sarah, neither was she. I am not saying she was bad but we just weren’t compatible especially when I gave my life to Christ and she didn’t want to change as well.”
“And your new found religion tells you divorce is right,huh? Do you know for how long I had been married to your father before he died? Did you think it was all bed of roses. No! It wasn’t, it was pain and sorrow and hardship but I endured it all and he endured it too, because that’s what marriage is, and divorce was not an option. But you, your wife refused your religion, you divorced her.”
“Point of correction, she divorced me. You know what mom, that’s not even the point of our discussion, the point is, Maureen is the one I want to marry whether you approve of it or not.”
In the split of a second, my mum was standing right in front of me with an inexplicable fury in her eyes.
“You will have to bury me first before you marry her.”
Mbamm...the door slams as she works past me.
What is going on with my mum?

“Hello Martha, I need to see your prophetess tomorrow. There is an urgent matter on ground.”

1) Do you think Paul’s mom is over reacting?
2) What do you think Paul’s mom is up to?
If Paul is her only son, i can bet she already had her own choice for him. Or seeing the pain he had to go through after his last marriage, her motherly instinct must have just switched be overly protective. I won't say she is overreacting.
ReplyDeleteMy simple thought of her next move is that, she will keep up a pity and sorrowful atmosphere for a long period of time to get her son buy her worry.
